# Forward security

One of the novel breakthroughs of the [Spiderchain](/botanix/get-to-know-botanix/intermediate/the-spiderchain.md) is its "Forward Security". Traditionally used in cryptographic encryption protocols ensuring private keys are long term secure, we applied the same principles to blockchain security. 

In the next pages we'll first introduce forward security in its traditional meaning in cryptography and then how we apply it in the Spiderchain.
