# Forward security

One of the novel breakthroughs of the [Spiderchain](https://docs.botanixlabs.com/botanix/get-to-know-botanix/intermediate/the-spiderchain) is its "Forward Security". Traditionally used in cryptographic encryption protocols ensuring private keys are long term secure, we applied the same principles to blockchain security.&#x20;

In the next pages we'll first introduce forward security in its traditional meaning in cryptography and then how we apply it in the Spiderchain. &#x20;
